Coast FM Announcers
Chris spent 38 years in the Public Service in both Tasmania and Queensland with various Government Departments. Before moving to Queensland in 1998 he held the position of Director of Development and Operations with the Tasmanian Licensing Commission. He was appointed the Queensland State Manager of Compliance with the Liquor Licensing Division in 1998 and held that position until he retired from the Public Service in 2004.
Chris is a former Chairman of Coast FM and is now Secretary/Public Officer.
Chris presents "Coast to Coast" on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9am to noon.
Emmerton Park at Smithton are the "naming rights" sponsor for Chris' Program.
Each day Chris has Famous Birthdays and Emmerton Park's "Track of the Day".
Monday is a mainly music day with the occasional interview and features Chris' "Aussie Hit Parade".
Wednesday is mainly taken up with "Aged Care Requests" where Chris plays songs requested by persons residing in "Aged Care Facilities" that participate in the Program.
Friday Chris interviews a local Mayor, has Leighton Poke with a gardening tip, features Bernie the "Devil Chef" who talks about almost anything and usually has some sort of joke to tell. On various Fridays he has interviews with politicians, talks with the Cancer Council, covers legal issues, consumer matters, local events coming up and human interest stories.
Brian Shearston is a semi retired secondary teacher having an extensive career as an educator in both public and private sectors. Brian has an extensive experience as a Maths, Science and ICT teacher for over 35 years in both NSW and Tasmania. Brian also has maintained school based cable radio stations and formed large groups of students as youth community radio operators. Currently employed as a mobile technician for Dick Smith Electronics serving the NW coast for the installation of TVs and computers especially for the older generation.
Brian has held many positions of responsibility in the Hawkesbury City Community Radio over a 15 year commitment at 2VTR FM 89.7 MHz based in Windsor NW Sydney. As early trainer and technician for this station was responsible for setting up and maintaining the transmissions. As a community organization he assumed the positions of Station Coordinator, Programmer, Technician, Presenter, OB coordinator, Chairman and Treasurer.
Brian is the current Chairman of Coast FM and also is the Station's Technical Officer and IT Guru, also is Training and promotions co-ordinator.
Brian presents Coastal Classics each Sunday from 10am to 12noon and also fills in as an announcer as and when required.
Rod joined Coast FM 27 years ago and has hosted many shows over the years. Rod has presented the Saturday Morning Breakfast Show for a long time now and has recently been joined by his co-host, his wife Deb.
Peter's first contact with Coast FM was in the late 1990's when he arranged a contra deal for his gardening business in return for office cleaning duties.
He became involved with phone duties for Garry Beaumont's Country Program. He was taught how to operate the panel and Marj Weeks helped him with his presentation skills.
Meroli has been involved with Coast FM since 1991. She answered the phones and handled the requests for Garry Beaumont. Garry taught her the ropes and gave her a "spot" on his Country Show so she could feature Tasmanian artists which she still does today.
In about 1997 Meroli took a 12 month break and Peter Wicks filled in for her.
PETER and MEROLI later fell in love and married and now present "Sunday Night Country" every three out of four Sundays from 7pm to 11pm.
